PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma)
Rejuvenate your skin, boost collagen and elastin production and improve skin tone with your own plasma cells.
PRP Skin Rejuvenation
PRP Skin Rejuvenation is an innovative skin treatment that has been scientifically proven to refresh, tone and tighten the skin by repairing the elasticity, colour and quality of the skin.
What to expect?
- Downtime: no
- Pain: mild
- Treatment time: 45-60mins
What is PRP Treatment?
PRP injections, also known as autologous conditioned plasma, is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein derived from whole blood, centrifuged to remove red blood cells. Injecting the platelet-rich plasma back into the skin, accelerated the production of collagen, elastin and new blood to reverse the side affects of ageing.
Our highly trained cosmetic practitioners begin the treatment by taking your blood and placing it in a centrifuge. This extracts the platelets and plasma, the most nutrient-rich properties. We then inject this back into the skin or area of concern. The platelets release important growth factors which instruct cells on what work needs to be done, such as producing new collagen.
What part of the body?
PRP can be used on any part of the body. We commonly treat the face for rejuvenation or scarring, dark circles around the eyes, stretch marks on the breasts, stomach or thighs and hair loss in both men and women.
Why you do it
PRP uses your body’s own rejuvenating properties to help build new collagen to repair and regenerate damaged skin for a healthier and more refreshed appearance. It has minimal downtime and long-lasting results.
PRP Skin Rejuvenation helps to:
- Improve the overall health, tone and elasticity of your skin
- Reduce shallow wrinkles and fine lines
- Reduce dark circles under your eyes
- Minimise the appearance of scars
- Minimise the visible signs of aged and sun-damaged skin
- Promoting even skin tone and texture
- Accelerating hair regrowth in desired areas
Possible side effects
Some people may experience some mild to moderate swelling in the area of treatment, redness, heat or local irritation. Bruising can also occur and may take several days to disappear.
If you have any concerns, contact Charlestown Cosmetic Medicine.
After your treatment you will need to avoid:
- Exercise for 24 hours
- Using aspirin for 48 hours
- Sun exposure for 4-6 days
- Anti-inflammatory medications such as Nurofen or Ibuprofen for 10 days
Advanced skin treatments can resume 2 weeks after treatment, on the advice on your practitioner. For best results, we recommend 2-3 treatments at 4-6 weekly intervals.
After the first treatment of PRP, the platelets will stimulate growth factors over the next few weeks and will continue to improve over the coming months, lasting for up to one year.
Because the injected blood is 100% your own, factors such as smoking, stress and illness can impact results.
