Anti-Wrinkle Injections

Anti-wrinkle injections

As we age, a loss of strength and elasticity in our skin, laxity, and volume loss under the skin can all contribute to wrinkle formation. With time, these lines can eventually become permanent. Anti-wrinkle injections are designed to temporarily relax the muscles that cause wrinkles during facial expressions. They can also be used to lift the brows, improve chin dimpling, lift the corners of the mouth, reduce neck bands (platysmal bands), and slim the face. The treatment will soften or smooth these lines completely and generally lasts 3-4 months, and regular treatments can prevent permanent creases from forming. Anti-wrinkle injections are a safe, effective, and affordable way to improve wrinkles and skin texture. Prices start from $100 and depend on dosage used. We charge per dose, not per area, so you’re not paying for product you don’t need.

What to expect?

  • Downtime: no
  • Pain: mild
  • Treatment time: 15-30 mins
  • Onset: Start seeing results in 3-5 days. Full effect in 2-3 weeks
  • Duration: Lasts 3-4 months

Whats is Anti-Wrinkle?

Anti-wrinkle treatments involve injecting tiny doses of botulinum toxin directly into the muscle we’re targeting. Australian law prevents us from stating brands, but there are 3 TGA-approved anti-wrinkle brands in Australia – all are high-quality, purified botulinum toxin. The product enters the cells and signals the muscle to relax, meaning the skin can’t crease as strongly and wrinkles relax. This can also create a lifting effect by targeting muscles that “pull-down” on areas of the face, for example, the corners of the mouth.

Procedure

The treatment involves injecting very small amounts anti-wrinkle solution into the desired areas. We use very small needles and pain is generally minimal. The procedure takes around 15 minutes, and with no down-time, you can return to your usual daily activities immediately after.

What areas can be treated with anti-wrinkle injections?

Anti-wrinkle injections are commonly used on the face and neck. Popular areas to treat include:

  • Frown lines
  • Forehead
  • Crow’s feet
  • Eyebrow lifting
  • Bunny lines
  • Chin creasing or dimpling
  • Smoker’s lines
  • Corners of the mouth
  • Masseters for teeth grinding or facial slimming
  • Platysmal neck bands
  • Underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis)

Possible side effects

There are minimal side-effects associated with anti-wrinkle injections.

After the treatment you’ll often have tiny pink marks where the injections have been, which resolve over a few minutes.

Occasionally you can develop a small bruise at an injection site.

Some people can experience headaches after anti-wrinkle injections – these generally don’t last longer than a day and can be treated with paracetamol and/or ibuprofen.

Occasionally you may notice an asymmetric result – this can generally be addressed quite easily with a touch up.

Uncommonly you might have one or both brows sitting a little heavy or lifting unnaturally at the edges. Often this resolves over a couple of weeks, or with a touch up, depending on the issue. Dose or placement adjustments can make this avoidable for future treatments.

Very rarely someone may experience a droopy eyelid. This also generally resolves over a couple of weeks, but for a more severe lid-droop we can prescribe drops to help improve the issue until the antiwrinkle product wears off.

Aftercare

Following your procedure, you should:

  • Avoid touching the injection site for 4 hours and rubbing your face for 24 hours (gentle washing is fine)
  • Stay upright for 4 hours
  • Avoid facing down or putting pressure on your face (including getting a massage, facial, wearing a motorcycle helmet or swimming goggles) for 12 hours
  • Avoid strenuous activities and heat for 24 hours
